ILHC on Their Date Change and Contest Rules

In a series of posts , the International Lindy Hop Championships leadership have clarified some of their recent decisions and actions, notably the change of date for ILHC 2022 and how the enforce their dance contest rules.

Most notably, ILHC 2022 will take place in May 2022 in New York City, which is a huge change for this event that has previously been held in the Washington DC area. Among the reasons they cite for the change are “celebrating Frankie Manning’s birthday, celebrating World Lindy Hoppers Day, and connecting back to the roots and history of the dance.”

My main takeaway from this is how complex and difficult holding a modern lindy hop event is. I’m just happy that folks are still willing to do the hard work of putting these competitions, shows, camps, and workshops on, despite all the headaches and financial insecurity.
