On Sunday, May 30th, there will be a dedication of a headstone at Frankie's gravesite in the Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. The will be a graveside ceremony at 1 PM and all of Frankie's friends are invited. Lana Turner, who organized Frankie's funeral and memorial services last year will be organizing this celebration and there will be live music again. The headstone will have etchings of photographs of Frankie. It has been produced by a well-known artisan through generous donations of $1000 each from individuals and organizations who were close to Frankie. There will be webpage about Frankie's gravesite with more information at http://www.savoystyle.com/manning-woodlawn.html .(under construction)

If you will be in New York City on Memorial Day weekend there will be plenty of opportunities to celebrate Frankie's memory on the dance floor. On Friday night George Gee will be at Swing46. Saturday night there will be a dance with live music from Wycliffe Gordon at Club 412 at YSBD. The Saturday night dance will be a celebration of the birthdays of Wycliffe Gordon and Dawn Hampton. There is already an unbelievable wealth of music for the weekend but, who knows, maybe something will come up Sunday night as well?

Is anyone planning to go from this to the Dreamland Beach Party?

    From Judy Pritchett:

    Quote
The ceremony will include live music by Wycliffe Gordon as well as Queen Esther and The Hot Five who will play for dancing after the service. Also: It looks like it will be a warm sunny day and we won't have any shade, so remember hats, water and sunscreen.

    See you all later today!

It was a magnificent ceremony and a beautiful (if very hot) day at Woodlawn cemetery yesterday for the dedication of the new headstone for Frankie's grave.

Lots of swing dignitaries were in attendance, as well as Frankie's family, and friends and lindy hoppers from all over the world. Loving remembrances and stories were told by Chazz, Judy, Norma, Cynthia, Aaron and Ryan. Wycliffe and Queen Esther provided musical tributes. And a bunch of dancers performed a big apple in Frankie's honor.

Finally the new headstone was unveiled. Here's a link to Larry Kang's photo of it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kang/4654196815/

    Just beautiful.

Thanks Lana and the rest of the organizers for putting on such a lovely ceremony and including us all in it.
