Watch the Montreal Swing Riot "Vintage vs Modern" Street Dancers Battle 2021!
/Montreal Swing Riot was one of my favorite dance events ever, bringing together some of the best dancers from a variety of genres to share their knowledge and energy in one of the coolest cities in the world. The event always culminated in a crazy dance between the “Modern vs Vintage Street Dancers.” (I’m sure you’ve seen the videos.)
Sadly, 2017 was the last year of Swing Riot… or was it?
Last Friday, two groups of dancers came together in Montreal to battle it out at an event called #CoLab-Swing Riot. Again it was the “Vintage Street Dancers” versus the “Modern Street Dancers,” but this time they would battle to the incredible music of the Urban Science Brass Band!
Fortunately, there was a Twitch stream of the event, which for now is still accessible. Check it out at this link. (NOTE: the dance battle starts around the 1:12 mark.)
Here’s all the dope dancers who participated:
Vintage Street Dancers:
Meghan Gilmore
Phil Gauthier
Rumi Jeraj
Antoine Simard and Coralie Bazinet
Alain Wong and Gen St-Lo
Modern Street Dancers:
Taminator
Kiki
Waldo
Krypto
Jonny Qwest
Melofunk
Rise
The event was a benefit for the Native Women's Shelter of Montreal.
Congrats to all the folks who put this on! Hopefully this means we’ll see more more mixed-style battles and events coming out of Montreal in the future.
