What’s Up for New Years at Lindy Focus and Snowball 2021?
/EDIT: Snowball in Sweden was cancelled in late December due to COVID-19 concerns.
As COVID infection rates seem to be improving in some parts of the world, we are of course wondering what the holidays will be like. For many lindy hoppers, that means will we get to swing out for New Years?
Two of the biggest New Year’s lindy hop dance parties are Lindy Focus in Asheville, North Carolina, USA and Snowball in Stockholm, Sweden. Both have issued cautiously optimistic statements in the past week or so.
The Lindy Focus organizers are planning on some kind of in-person event as of now, with registration open. From the Lindy Focus organizers on their Facebook page:
Our policy during the event may change based on the local guidelines at that time. As of now, there is an indoor mask mandate in Asheville. Proof of vaccination is still required, and we will have both medical staff and rapid tests available at the event. We are in the midst of some restructuring that will hopefully allow us to gather and celebrate in the safest way possible. Here are a few changes we’ve made so far:
Live music will be provided by a smaller band.
As of now, there will be no classes or formal competitions.
From the Snowball organizers on their Instagram feed:
We are happy to announce that the Snowball will be happening in some form this December. We loved gathering together digitally last year but of course we are also hoping for in-person possibilities. We will be monitoring the government's restrictions being removed here in Sweden and we are currently exploring all of our options. Due to the fluid nature of the situation we will be opening registration later in Fall.
Both Snowball and Lindy Focus are planning to host online events for New Years Eve. So there will be some form of celebration, no matter what. We’ll keep you updated as plans develop.
Stay safe, follow your local health authorities’ guidance, and keep hope alive!
