Sampling the “Charleston” and “Shag” Coffees from Dancing Ox Roasters
/Two things I’m passionate about are dancing and coffee. So I was so pleased when Dancing Ox Coffee Roasters sent us a couple of their dance-inspired coffee beans: the “Charleston” and the “Shag,” I busted out my Aeropress and tried out both immediately.
But why dancing and coffee? Owners of Dancing Ox, JP and Lauren, were competitive ballroom dancers for 20 years before opening their roasting business in North Carolina. They realized they shared a passion for coffee, travel and artistry. "Coffee can be even more dynamic than dancing,” says Lauren, “a cup of coffee holds a world of nuances, rhythms, and emotions.”
JP and Lauren launched Dancing Ox in 2018 in Belmont, North Carolina and now offer several dance-inspired coffees from around the world. Here’s what I thought of the two varieties they sent to us:
“The Shag” is a blend of Colombia and Brazil beans with tasting notes of “apple, nutmeg, dark chocolate.” It’s a medium dark roast, so packs a nice punch for your mid-day cup. Someone used to a Starbucks blend will enjoy this, for sure.
“The Charleston” is a Fair Trade coffee from the WORKA cooperative in Ethiopia. A medium roast, it has notes of “dark chocolate, strawberry, grape.” I loved the fruity, balanced aroma of this one, which I would love to brew for my first cup of the day.
If you would like to try these or any of their other beans out yourself, we’re excited to share with you the promo code “Yehoodibeans” which will get you 10% off their entire order and free shipping! (BTW Yehoodi does not receive any compensation for this, other than the two samples they sent us.)
Also, check out JP and Lauren’s blog, which has a number of very cute videos of them dancing and talking about coffee. This one of them drinking coffee while salsa dancing is definitely one of my #dancegoals.
